Pete Wilson
People stop and gawk
at the iron man who doesn’t speak, standing by a sidewalk
on a public street.
Up close they walk and look;
then on the pavement by his fee,
they stop to read his resume
that argues for a higher place
for a statute with his name. Someplace better you would think, than a public sidewalk,
for the Governor of the state;
who came within a sore throat,
most think, of being President.
His statue should be high above
the common people on the street. Normal folks should not come close, as to be near enough to speak; yet, some stand so close they not and wink as if they talk with Pete.
Republicans say it was wrong
to leave Pete all alone.
Why, he should be in a parthenon with other legends gone.
Democrats say it was wrong to erect a statue of Iron Pete. Because after all; as yet,
he is not deceased.
He should be melted down
and only after he’s buried and gone should his statute be put up again; and then, only when it’s shown
a Republican can go to heaven. The political pundits opine,
all the smilin’ by iron Pete,
as he stands there on the street, means he’s still politickin’
for less government.
But, we all know the reason
that his critics are upset;
it’s because his constant smilin’
is so very permanent.
